A New JMM collaboration, Dealan Squarzi

You certainly already know how hard it is to find your next frame since you probably have been looking for it for weeks, maybe months. We will try, however, to make this process as smooth as possible for you. Here is our 1st recommendation, a JMM collaboration.

The New Dealan Charcoal - Alessandro Squarzi Collab

This very modern and retro sunglass is and remains a classic for Jacques Marie Mage. In collaboration with Alessandro Squarzi and handcrafted in Japan, as most of their frames, it presents a sense of stability as well as french chic.

Technical specifications

Durability wise it is a 10 mm Polished grey and clear cured cellulose Acetate frame, with custom double laminated temples featuring precious material hardware. Its hardware is Sterling Silver and the lenses are Grey. The silver-gold signature arrowhead front pin and the custom native-inspired engraved wire core design are specific of JMM.

About the brand

The brand is somewhat recent in the industry, 5 years in the business. Jacques Marie Mage designer goods are acclaimed for their innovative designs and unparalleled craftsmanship. Handmade in Japan using a combination of traditional techniques and cutting edge technologies.

Why do we recommend it for you?

This is a popular subtle cat-eye, rectangular frame that will make you stand out. The design combining custom hinge with spur-shaped rivets and a domed 3D metal cameo logo makes it original and outstanding. Regarding the technical specifications, it also offers you a 100% UV protection and its 6 base CR39 lens comes with a backside anti-reflective treatment.

To keep your eyes comfortable and to maintain great vision in the sun, you need a lens that does two things:

  1. Reduces the amount of light and glare that passes through the front of the lenses.

  2. Minimizes light, glare, and UV that can reflect off the back of the lenses.

In order to prevent or minimize all of that light, glare, and UV reflecting off the back of the lenses, you need a sunglass lens that has an anti-reflective coating on the backside. When you have an anti-reflective coating on the backside of your sunglass lenses, these visually distracting reflections will be virtually eliminated.

Who do we recommend it for?

Mostly men wear this pair however it is unisex. The New Dealan also can fit different kinds of faces. The round, oblong and heart faces as well as the oval faces would find it a great fit!

In such cases, it means that if you have:

An Oval face shape

Your face length is larger than the width of the cheekbones and your forehead is wider than your jaw line. The angle of your jaw is soft.

A Round face shape

Your cheekbones are the widest part of your face and have similar measurements than the face length. Jaw angle still soft.

An Oblong face shape

Your face length is the largest part. Your forehead, cheekbone and jaws have similar measurements. The angle of your chin is pointy.

An Heart face shape

You have a large forehead, small cheekbones and a very small jawline. The angle of your chin is pointy.

With the standard system of measurements it is fairly easy to select a size that works for you. The measurement are usually found on the temples and are in millimeters. This frame is a 50 mm eyesize, 20 mm bridge and 142 mm for the temples.

On top of that, below are a few basic tips which you can usually follow in order to find the perfect pair of glasses for you:

  • Your pupils look through the middle of the lens

  • The lenses are not much wider than your face

  • The frame does not sit in front of your eyebrows, so you can still see all of your facial expressions

  • The glasses should not slide off your nose

Nuances

In contrast with what was just mentioned, one of the drawbacks is the delivery times that can be very lengthy and sometimes the production from Japan might be delayed. On top of that, you will have to pay the full price before actually receiving the frame. Customer service is also not JMM’s best attribute.

One thing that many customers have complained about is the heaviness of the glasses. When sitting on the nose, the front of the frame being of 10 mm of acetate, it creates discomfort.

Overall and for the most part, JMM glasses are beautiful and well designed frames to put on your shelf but not to wear on a daily basis. This is what comes out of most of the brand’s frames reviews.

Price is $590 online and it is available for pre order.
